The Making Of The Dark Crystal

The Making of the Dark Crystal: Creating A unique film is a book that came out in 1983 and was written by Christopher Finch. The book explores the Dark Crystal and really delves into what went into making such a fantastical film.

The book highlights many of the talented individuals that brought the film to life...
... but more importantly, it features LOTS (and lots) of interesting behind the scene photos!

Here are some of my favorites, although this is just the tip of the iceberg. The entire book is awesome.

I'd seriously scan the whole book if I could, but I'm afraid of wrecking the spine in the scanner... and my scanner doesn't do the photos justice.

I remember seeing the Dark Crystal when I was a kid and not really knowing what I was looking at. Everything was just pure magic to me. Most of the movie scared the living cheesies out of me, but I remember being fascinated by it nevertheless.

I wish I had this book when I was a kid. It would have really explained everything that went into making the film. It might have demystified some of my curiosities, but it would have sparked so much more wonderment.

I think Malcolm and I agree that puppeteering is an amazing craft. I'd happily sell my house and move to the Creature workshop if they needed someone to sweep their floors. I'm serious. Call me.

If you can track down a copy of this book, buy it. I was lucky enough to find this copy at a local used book fair for three bucks. But it's really worth so much more.
